The Feeling of an Australian Bush Watering Hole
Evoking the feeling of an Australian bush watering hole, this beautifully-constructed Natural Pools project was the gold medal winner at the Swimming Pool and Spa Association of Victoria’s (SPASA VIC) Awards of Excellence in 2013 in the Best Residential Natural Pool category.
The pool is located on a rural property with a suitable-styled country home, complete with expansive verandas offering sweeping views across the surrounding countryside. The brief was to transform what was largely an undeveloped clay bowl dust pit into a space that would welcome family and friends out into the garden.
The 1.5m slope of the site was utilised by incorporating a stepped waterfall into the pool design, which sits next to the generously-sized spa. The spa walls beam have been disguised through masterful stone cladding, complemented by a Kanmantoo slate interior.
For the pool, to achieve the waterhole look sought by the client, Natural Pools selected a render finish in a pastel aquamarine colour. The pool’s design includes four sloped bench seats, where swimmers can exit and enter safely or relax in the varying depths that the different benches provide.
Kanmantoo slate has again been used for the paving surrounding the pool, with planting pockets to soften the hardscaping. Extending into the pool as the waterline tiling, the slate creates a seamless transition between the surrounds and the pool interior.
Given the exposed nature of the pool area and surrounding eucalyptus trees, which are notorious for shedding leaf litter, two SupaSkimmers were installed into the pool in addition to leaf canisters operating with the in-flour cleaning system, to keep the pool in optimum condition, with minimal work for the homeowners.
Natural Pools has been involved in in-ground concrete swimming pool design and construction for more than 35 years. This project’s recent award-win is one of more than 60 awards the company has to its name, recognised as a leader in swimming pool construction, pool renovations and landscape design.
Innovative, quality Natural Pools design, like the featured project, can be found across Melbourne, as well as on the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas.
