A Pool at the Top of the World

To create the feeling of being on top of the world, this pool was built above ground level.

The pool was built the same time as the two-story home, positioned on the second floor so it would be the on the same level as the kitchen, dining and living areas, which open out to the pool terrace.

This was a challenging construction for the team at Natural Pools. Due to its location the entire pool and spa structure had to be fully formed and concreted approximately three metres above ground level.

It was imperative that the pool did not leak as this would create major problems within the house. Special waterproofing additives were incorporated in the pool concrete, water-stop seals were applied to all plumbing penetrations and the pool was given a waterproof membrane prior to tiling.

White ceramic mosaic tiles were selected for the pool and spa interior to provide a soft blue colour to the water. Decking and granite pavers were chosen for the pool coping and surrounds to complement the tones of the house.

The pool design integrated with the house and offers year-round panoramic views of Port Phillip Bay. The use of Glasson the outside wall of the swimming pool was cleverly designed to create the illusion of the pool’s water and Port Phillip Bay blending as one. In keeping with the seamless design, a 200mm glass panel was installed to form the spillway wall between the pool and spa.

The pool is fully automated, with touch-panel control of all pool and spa functions from within the house. Gas and solar heating systems have been installed, allowing for the pool to be used comfortably throughout the year. A PCC2000 in-floor cleaning system, automatic chlorination and an automatic water leveller provide for a very low-maintenance pool.

The intricate lighting around the pool surround, which is fully automated for within the house, creates an inviting area for outdoor entertaining.

Overall, the swimming pool is perfectly placed, providing unobstructed views of the bay whether you are in the pool or in the house.

And what better way to unwind at the end of the day than relaxing in the spa while watching the sun go down.
